GLOBAL ISSUES: RACISM

CAPTCHA

Google develops invisible web security Captcha form

The website security checks will probably disappear in favour of a new system developed by Google: Captcha. This new system ask people to complete a puzzle that a computer would have struggle to complete correctly.

They are designed to stop automated bots using websites.

Google's new system tracks how persons interact with websites to prove they're real, so the puzzles are no longer necessary.

The Captcha checks can appear when someone is trying to log in to a website with the wrong password.

Resultado de imagen de captcha checks googleThe puzzles are simply challenges for people but computers can find it more difficult. Those puzzles can be:
  • Identifying photographs of dogs in a gallery of animal pictures.
  • Typing numbers from a photograph of a road sign into a box.
  • Listening to somebody reading out numbers over music and typing the numbers into a box.

The puzzles benefit companies, as Google, by helping train artificial intelligence algorithms. But for users this may be a nuisance.

Google has already simplified the process asking users to tick a check box on the website they're using. The box controls how persons interacted with it to separate human clicks from bots.

The latest actualization removes the check box and instead analyses how people have interacted with other elements on a website. But some suspicious activities will still trigger a puzzle.

This kind of control system is very necesary in our lives. We are a society connected to Internet and websites and we have to protect ourselves from hackers and others interactons from bots.

DIABETES

Can sweat patches revolutionise diabetes?

Scientists have developed a sensor that can control our blood sugar levels by the analysing of sweaty skin. This sensor needs just one millionth of a litre of sweat to do the test.

A South Korean team said the sensor was accurate and they trully think it could help patients with diabetes.

SensorThe sensor is flexible and can move with the skin. But scientists needed to overcome a series of challenges to make it worth.
Firstly, there is less sugar in sweat than in blood, so it's harder to find and, secondly, there are other chemicals in sweat which can disrupt the results, as lactic acid.

So the patch has three sensors for monitoring the sugar levels, four sensors which controls the acidity of the sweat and a humidity sensor for analysing the amount of sweat.

All this information recollected by the sensor is passed onto a portable computer which does the analysis.

Scientists conclude saying this new sistem provide important advances for diabetes but they want to test how the patches work in the long-term.

All patients with diabetes deserve this method because the other one is too painful and dangerous. In blood there are a lot of illnesses and there are easy to propagate. This future method will be more safe and easy to use.

A blaze leaves 19 dead

Guatemala children's home blaze 'leaves 19 dead'

Firefighters say that 19 children have died in a blaze at a children's care home. About 25 others were injured in the fire at the Virgen de Asuncion shelter about 25 km south-east of Guatemala City.

There is no information about what caused the blaze but one police officer said the fire started with burning mattresses in one of the bedrooms.

Yesterday, the police intervined after a riot and about 60 children escaped. Some of them alleged they had been mistreated or sexually abused.

The UN children's fund in Guatemala said on Twitter it condemns the tragedy at the Virgin of the Assumption Home. That these children and adolescents must be protected.

The capacity of the home is 400 but there were many more children in the home.

The shelter takes in children up to the age of 18 who have suffered abuse or trafficking, or have been abandoned.

The shelter was also a juvenile detection centre where judges were sending adolescents involved in criminal cases.

An injured victim is brought to hospital in San Jose PinulaIt's not fair for those children to be tragically condamned in a children's care home with disastrous conditions. They have to be protected by law, not sexually abused.

GLOBAL ISSUES NEW: International Women's Day

International Women's Day: Strikes and protests around the world

Indonesian women dance in Yogyakarta during an International Women's Day celebration on March 8, 2017 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Woman of all around the world have left her work and are on strike as part of International Women's Day. This strike, "Day Without a Woman", is designed to highlight how important are woman to the Us national workforce.

Some schools were forced to close after staff walked out.

International Women's Day has began as a labour movement protest in 1908 and now it's an UN recognised annual event.

Today, 8th of March, thousands of women in the Us are expected not to work or spend money, to show their economic power and impact on society.

The President Donald Trump said on on Twitter he had tremendous respect for women but he has been accused of sexism and sexual assault.

In Ireland, women went on strike and wore black to protest against the country's abortion laws. Londres, Amsterdam and elsewhere held solidary protests for Irish laws.

In Poland, women started rallies and marches to demand protection against violence, equal rights and respect.

In Iceland, the government said there will be equal pay for the employers regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexuality or nacionality.

Women should be proud of beeing women. Today is the day which commemorates all women who fought for her rights. Nowadays we have not arrived at equality, neither in developed countries.

It is not fair that men earn more than women because of their sex. Woman's, apart from a job, have to do the housework, while man do not engage in these jobs.

In the XIX century, man was treated better than women, they had better life quality. But the International Women's Day is caused by the terrible fire of the textile factory of New York in 1911. There died 146 women workers. And there will always remember this day like the International Women's Day because of this awful accident.

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

The optical illusions are related with the sense of sight. They are characterized of the perception of wrong or fake images. The images are fake when our brain sees things which no exists, or wrong, if the brain misinterpret the visual information.

Optical illusions are considerate art and science, and generate fake interpretations of reality. Those illusions aren’t real but neither imaginary. Well, our world is not like we see it, the reality we perceive is an appearance fruit of the information we collect from our senses, so, we should not trust in them.

Our brain always needs to found a meaning and a balance in everything it perceives. In front of an optical illusion, the brain has not answer so it decides to reinterpret the information by itself and draws its own conclusions.

And now you will truly ask: And how can the brain reinterpret the information by itself? Easy, the brain is based on personal experiences and innate ideas which allows to draw its conclusions.

There are different explications of illusions. The physical explanation is based in the senses we perceive, the optical one provide the 80% of the brain information. The physiological explanation creates a fake sensation of movement because the contrast between colours and the constant movement of our eyes or head. The psychological explanation says that the visual information we perceive is not enough, the nervous system is key for the interpreting of illusions.

WHAT THE HELL IS A DÉJÀ VU?

I'm sure we all lived a déjà vu in our lives, a sensation of thinking we lived a situation before. This sensation is called paramnesia and it’s compound of 3 types of sensations.

Déjà vécu “Already lived”
A déjà vécu happens when we feel we lived the same situation we’re living in that moment. This is the most common déjà vu.

Déjà senti “Already listened”
This is an experience that apparently we lived but we aren’t capable of remembering.

Déjà visité
Is the sensation of knowing a place at the first time we visit it.

Scientists tried to explain rationally why is it produced. They investigated this kind of paramnesia for lots of years and thought it was caused by a paranormal experience. Now, they say a déjà vu is a fault common in human mind, meaning that our brain gets wrong thinking we lived a situation that actually we didn’t lived.

Scientists compare déjà vu with nightmares, where we can explain with all detail the situation we lived in the dream but we can not answer how or why we lived it. Humans are able to distinguish between real and unreal but, sometimes, our mind play a dirty trick on us and unreal situation merge into real ones and seems we lived the unreal situation before.

I lived a lot of déjà vu and it seems so real that I became sick. I was worried about this but now I know I’m not the only one who has this paranoia I feel better. In fact, 60-70% of the population lived déjà vu.

Personally, I relate déjà vu with time and universe. Once, a friend and I lived at the same time a déjà vu and I don’t believe in coincidences. There is a theory, The Marbles’ Theory, which says the time is not lineal but cyclic and when we live a déjà vu we are remembering a forgotten memory.
