Optical illusions are
considerate art and science, and generate fake interpretations of reality. Those
illusions aren’t real but neither imaginary. Well, our world is not like we see
it, the reality we perceive is an appearance fruit of the information we
collect from our senses, so, we should not trust in them.
Our brain always needs to
found a meaning and a balance in everything it perceives. In front of an
optical illusion, the brain has not answer so it decides to reinterpret the
information by itself and draws its own conclusions.
And now you will truly ask:
And how can the brain reinterpret the information by itself? Easy, the brain is
based on personal experiences and innate ideas which allows to draw its
conclusions.
There are different explications
of illusions. The physical explanation is based in the senses we perceive, the
optical one provide the 80% of the brain information. The physiological
explanation creates a fake sensation of movement because the contrast between
colours and the constant movement of our eyes or head. The psychological
explanation says that the visual information we perceive is not enough, the nervous
system is key for the interpreting of illusions.
